It's that time of the year. School begins and so does youth soccer. I feel like most kids grow up playing soccer as their after school sport of choice. It's a great gateway sport! My son has been playing soccer every year since kindergarten and he is now a third grader.
Soccer practice started in late August and he trains twice per week; once with his coach and once with his teammates in the UK training clinic they bring in for all the teams in our FC. Yesterday was our first game. The season opener couldn't have happened on a prettier day. The sun was out, the air was breezy and spirits were high for everyone. My son's team didn't win but that's okay he had a lot of fun getting out there and competing. Every year its amazing to see his skills improve and his love for the sport grow.
My oldest played 2 years of soccer and was over it. We realized that he is not one for confrontational sports and we'll be pursuing swimming with him. My daughter is now at an age that she can play soccer through the little kickers program and I'll be signing her up in the next day or two. She has her hand-me-down shinguards and is super excited about playing soccer like her brother.
