Movie: The Hunger Games

I told myself I wasn't going to write a post on my excitement for the Hunger Games.  I figured the blogosphere would be littered with posts of excitement and love and adoration for the story.

But I couldn't help myself.

It took me a long time to finally read this series.  I had the books on my Amazon list for a while but kept getting side tracked with other series, or receiving other books as gifts but alas, I've read all the books and immediately fell in love with the story and the characters.  I get bothered by the comparisons to Twilight.  Yes there is a central female figure with a love triangle.  So what.  The stories couldn't be more different.

To see these characters come to life will be amazing.  I read some articles with the director and he made a very conscious decision not to put a lot of emphasis on the love story aspect nor to portray gore, because, if you've read the books it could have easily gone down a blood and guts route.  According to the interview, which I believe was in Entertainment Weekly,  the story will be more about "Katniss' journey....a hero's journey...." Personally I like that angle a lot better than the other two.

I won't go into to much teenage, fandom, craziness but let's just look at some photos and the movie trailer.

Elizabeth Banks' character looks amazing and reminds me of the costumes and make up for Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette"

The main crew!
I'm so excited for the movie to come out.  I love all the media coverage in magazines.  I'm soaking it up to the nth degree.  Are you excited for the Hunger Games?  Did you read the books first?

March 23 cannot come soon enough.
